SILVERSTREAM DAZZLES DEVELOPERS AT HEADSTART ‘98 CONFERENCE

Hundreds of Corporate Executives, Developers And Software Engineers Previewed SilverStream 2.0 and Discussed The Evolution of Web Applications Within the Enterprise

Burlington, MA June 15, 1998 - SilverStream Software, Inc., announced the successful completion of its HeadStart ’98 conference. SilverStream welcomed over 400 corporate customers, channel and product partners, consultants, and analysts at the two-day event. Companies such as Goldman Sachs, Siemens, MCI, 3M and Banker’s Trust, received information on SilverStream 2.0 from SilverStream’s executives and contributed to discussions on building and deploying enterprise-class business applications.

Following the success of last year’s HeadStart conferences, which targeted early adopters, this year’s event focused on the progress users and partners have made since the release of SilverStream 1.0, as well as information on the upcoming release of SilverStream 2.0. Through high level discussions and product demonstrations, attendees were able to learn directly from SilverStream’s management and development teams. Attendees also had the opportunity to interact with their peers who have built enterprise-level applications, creating a forum for sharing ideas and learning from one another.

"The HeadStart Conference has always been a knowledge sharing exercise," said David Skok, SilverStream’s founder and chairman. "HeadStart is an opportunity for developers and users to discuss their implementation of enterprise-level applications with SilverStream, expressing successes, as well as providing suggestions. At this year’s event, I believe we exceeded developer’s expectations by incorporating more than last year’s user feedback into this release of the product."

"I was extremely impressed with the maturity of the product that was presented at HeadStart '98. The response to SilverStream version 2.0 was extraordinary," said Bruce Sebell, Director of Information Systems and Technology, Thompson Financial Services. "We have been building complex, business critical applications with SilverStream since version 1.0. With version 2.0, SilverStream Software will undoubtedly lead the market in providing the mechanisms to deploy Web applications throughout the enterprise."
Sandip Gupta, a SilverStream Sterling Channel Partner and senior manager at Indus Consultancy Services, Inc. said, "HeadStart ‘98 was a unique way to introduce SilverStream version 2.0 to customers, partners and analysts. It was a terrific means to exchange and distribute information about the new product, a common platform to discuss product features, applications and industry trends. The two days were well spent on discussing the business benefits and technical details of SilverStream version 2.0. I am sure the new version will raise the bar in the crowded field of application servers."

As part of HeadStart ’98, SilverStream also invited several of its SilverNET partners (SilverStream Network of Enterprise Technology), a cooperative development and marketing framework for complementary-technology providers, to participate in the event. Partners such as Actuate, Brainstorm, Chartworks, Cyrano, IBM, Intelligent Environments, Intersolv, International Software Group, Mercury Interactive Corp., and Mobile Application Servers, Inc., provided attendees with information on, and demonstrations of, complementary technology solutions for SilverStream.

One SilverNET partner, Planetworks, a leader in the integration of best-of-breed tools and enterprise transaction and messaging middleware, has extended their application framework to allow SilverStream developers to build applications on top of IBM's CICS, MQSeries and other enterprise middleware. "Assembling enterprise applications can be a complex process, but our integration with SilverStream has made the endeavor virtually pain free. HeadStart '98 was the perfect forum for enabling us to introduce this technology to some of the country's leading corporate developers in a cooperative and interactive environment," said Enzo Greco, CTO of Planetworks.

With the optional report design tool, companies can create special reports to meet their unique needs. "Our standard report formats are designed to accommodate the most common and useful reports a company needs, and are so easy to create that an IT person is not required," Lane points out. "But we recognize that some users need unique data analysis. For them, the report writing tool is the perfect option."
